This sampler quilt was given as a gift to a private pilot. The personalized touches make it a Celebration of his life, while the tasteful use of color and design make it a work of art.
It has a center medallion that is an HTH Celebration Quilts original design landscape showing an actual replica of the pilot's plane. The cornerstones around the centerpiece are made from fabrics and clothing that had belonged to the recipient's family (his parents, grandparents and brother). The border blocks are all symbolic:
The North Star, Pinwheel and Flying Swallows representing aviation
The Mexican Cross representing his travels there
California state block which was his former place of residence
In each corner are keepsakes from this pilot's childhood and early adult years. Top center is the monogram.
This quilt highlights precision piecing, machine embroidery, machine appliqué, machine quilting. It is an original design incorporating some traditional blocks and one original block, as well as the original center landscape. Finished size is 60 inches square.
